Jim’s Corner (#156 April 2010) It was a wonderful luncheon meeting on March 2nd, catching up with old friends and co-workers in addition to hearing about a super organization – ORBIS International. It was especially meaningful to understand how they are using our products to bring hope and wellness to people around the world. It was great that one of our own, Jack McHale, is now the President & CEO of ORBIS. For those of you who want to learn more about ORBIS visit them at www.orbis.org. They have a very nice picture of their DC-10 under the “Flying Eye Hospital” tab. Consider supporting them as they are a wonderful organization. Aviation Day at the Rancho - I talked about the Centennial Celebration at Dominquez Rancho Adobe Museum at our luncheon. Here is a little bit more information from the Rancho’s website: In 1910, Dr. Gregorio Del Amo, the husband of Susana Dominquez, arranged for the Rancho to become part of aviation history. In that year, the 1st International Aviation Meet in America was held on the Rancho. The Meet lasted for 10 days, with viewing stands erected just for the occasion. It provided the first opportunity for people on the West Coast to see an airplane in flight. Aviation pioneers such as William Boeing attended and others were inspired to develop the aviation industry in Southern California. On June 12, 2010 it will be Aviation Day at the Rancho. This event is intended to honor and celebrate the opening day of the 1910 Air Meet. There will be a static car and plane display, tethered balloon rides, children’s activities, parachuters, possible flyovers, food vendor row, museum row, and tours of the Adobe. For more information, see the Rancho’s website at http://dominquezrancho.org MacDac West Retiree Membership - It is the responsibility of all of us to recruit new members to keep our organization growing for the future. So, when you see former co-workers, ask if they know about our DAC-MDC-Boeing Retirees of California. I have been surprised at the number of people who have retired and do not know of our organization. If you find one of them, please put them in contact with our VP of Membership (at 714-522-6122). Congrats to Barbara Callaghan and Sande McAlexander who man our Membership Table at each Luncheon – They signed up five new members on March 2nd. It is great to see Kim Still and his wife who came down from Sutter Creek in the Gold Country of California. Speaking of the next luncheon meeting, don’t forget to mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 5th, …and the day prior, October 4th, for our annual Golf Tournament. - Jim Phillips, president |
